Third Chair Chamber Players' much-anticipated 2009-10
season brochure is in the mail! Here's a sneak preview of the upcoming
concerts at NET's Studio One… |

|
SEPTEMBER 11 & 13 • “Strings and
Friends” |
|
|
|
Graham House |
The 14th season
begins with an evening of lush Romantic quintets. TCCP strings Donna
Carnes, Clark Potter and Tracy Sands, along with violinist Kim
Salistean and Graham House on horn, perform the beautiful Horn Quintet
by Edwin York Bowen, an English composer whose works are gaining in
popularity. Pianist Sheri Ericksen joins the strings to perform Antonin
Dvorak's Quintet in A major, considered by many one of the great piano
quintets. A Divertimento for violin, cello and high horn by Franz
Joseph Haydn rounds out the program. |
|
|
NOVEMBER 6 & 8 • “All-American Trios” |
|
|
|
Christian
Ellenwood |
A celebration of
living American composers, including Lincoln native Christian
Ellenwood. TCCP's clarinet-cello-piano trio—Ed Love, Tracy Sands and
Sheri Ericksen—perform jazz-oriented pieces by Ellenwood and
"Ombres de Novembre" by Rick Sowash. Guest trumpeter Deb
Bouffard, violinist Donna Carnes and pianist Sheri Ericksen explore
both mellow sonorities and strong rhythms in Eric Ewazen's trio. Also
on the bill is a work for trumpet, clarinet and piano by Normand Pepin.

|
|
JANUARY 22 & 24 • “Enchanted Harp” |
|
|
|
Kathleen
Wychulis |
A variety of chamber
works for harp from around the globe. Harpist Katie Wychulis introduces
us to the music of Australian composer Dulcie Holland, Frenchman
Jacques Bondon, Netherlands-born Henri Zagwijn, and Englishman (with
strong Irish influence) Arnold Bax. Performing with Katie are Becky Van
de Bogart, flute; Ed Love, clarinet; Clark Potter, viola; and Sheri
Ericksen, piano. |
|
|
APRIL 16 & 18
• “Romantic Winds” |
|
|
|
Justin Rubin |
A veritable pot au feu of wind
music. We dug down deep into the woodwind quintet repertoire and found
a gem by the great composer Ottorino Respighi, best known for such
wonderful orchestral works as Pines
of Rome and Fountains
of Rome. Our bassoonist, Jeff Campell, pointed us to a
flute-bassoon-piano trio by jazz legend Chick Corea, and to a set of
Bagatelles for bassoon and marimba by Justin Rubin, a colleague of his
at the University of Minnesota–Duluth. And no season is complete
without a work by our in-house favorite, Tristan Fuentes. |
